Rwanda Tea Brand Identiy
Vilage Group, Kigali Rwanda 2014 Identity, Branding Country wide, Rwanda
The Rwanda National Tea Brand identity reflects the image of the tea’s country of origin, people and culture. It is made up of the defining elements of what the brand will look like, sound like and feel like and how it will be identified and recognized by the target market.
The Identity for the Rwanda Tea national brand is personified by the following elements:
The leaf within the basket represents the three leaves and a bud as a
familiar expression with the international premium tea industry, and the
young delicate nature of tea trees. Its soft curves abstractly portray the
rolling hilly landscape of Rwanda, a unique place to grow tea. The sun rising
above the Rwandan hills represents growth, warmth, hope, awakenings
and new beginnings.
The leaf is a sign of the vibrancy of young tealeaves in their ability to
naturally rejuvenate themselves. Its well-placed location, best climates, high
altitudes, and rich soils contribute to its strong yet elegant and refreshing
taste. This is a reflection of the Rwandan people characterized by their
grace, strength, and sophisticated cultural heritage. The regular tea green
color as a primary color alludes to the freshness of tea as a product.
The basket design to reflect abstract patterns used to adorn traditional
Rwandan artwork. Patterns that in many instances reflect hilly landscapes.
Tea farmers also readily use baskets to collect and store tea leaves
handpicked from tea gardens. The basket is symbolic of tea as a gift from
Rwanda to the world.
Identity Process
The logo is an important part of a brand’s identity. It is the graphic symbol
that represents an organization, or in this instance, a product.
Considering that this project aims to develop a national tea brand that is
also a mark of origin and seal of quality for the Rwandan tea, the logo will
be the visual expression of the brand’s objectives, by channeling the
following components:
Mark of Origin
Tradition + Tea Leaves + Landscape
These components as visually showcased below, informed the style and
shapes of the logo designs.
